The Story of Con Murphy's
Con Murphy's is an Irish Pub in Philadelphia, paying tribute to an old friend from Ireland, Con Murphy, and a tribute to the Irish community in Philadelphia.
Con was, like many an Irishman, both a gentleman and a scholar. He had a healthy aversion to work. Con never lied but was often careless with the truth and never allowed it to get in the way of a good story. He treated your money like his but his generosity knew no bounds. Con was a raconteur and a rogue but, above all, he was a character who brought a smile to your face and warmth to your heart — which is what this Pub aims to do also.
Fellow Limerick men themselves, Liam Kelly and Maurice Collins have carved an Irish niche in Philadelphia with the help of a few Irish craftsmen. A classy yet comfortable Irish Pub experience awaits you in the Windsor Hotel on Ben Franklin Parkway. Ben and Con would have gotten along famously (and are probably trading stories as we speak).
The Team
Max Johnson — Executive Chef
Max leads the kitchen at Con Murphy's, from the Irish breakfast and weekend brunch through the dinner menu and late-night bites. Ask for Max's seasonal cheesecake.
Community
We like to stay as active in the Philadelphia community as possible. We proudly support many local clubs, organizations and charities such as the Liberty Sailing Club, The Schuylkill River Exiles Rugby Club and Kevin Barry's G.F.C. annual golf outing.
Liberty Sailing Club (opens in new window) — one of the Philadelphia-based, member-supported, non-profit organizations Con Murphy's supports. The club is for sailing enthusiasts of all levels who enjoy the leisure of cruising and the excitement of racing.
Schuylkill River Exiles Rugby Club (opens in new window) — the only Division I Men's Rugby club in Philadelphia. Founded in 1995, the club has enjoyed much well-deserved success since.
Kevin Barry's G.F.C. (opens in new window) — a local Gaelic Football Club that plays in the North American Championships every year. As an Irish Pub, we like to stay involved in the Irish community in Philadelphia by supporting special events and Irish organizations such as Kevin Barry's.
Philly Hawks (opens in new window) — an Australian Rules Football club that began in 1998 as the Philly Crows, now sponsored by the mighty Hawthorn Football Club of Australia, with a roster of over 30 players and alumni around the globe.
